Yannis Gyros is a straightforward gyro restaurant on Adlai Stevenson Drive in Springfield that draws a steady local crowd looking for quick, satisfying Greek-inspired meals. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious—something between a neighborhood takeout spot and a casual dine-in joint. The dining area is cozy, fitting for a low-key lunch or an easy weekday dinner without the fuss.

What stands out here is the focus on gyros done several ways, from the classic Traditional Gyro to the Smoky Spicy BBQ Gyro and even the more unusual Gyro Horseshoe, a local twist combining gyro meat with a regionally beloved horseshoe sandwich style. The menu also features Greek fries flavored with lemon and oregano, which locals seem to appreciate for their crispiness and distinctive seasoning. There’s enough variety for those who want to add salad, hummus, or even Italian beef sandwiches to the mix, making it a spot where groups can find something for everyone.

This place suits anyone after a reliably tasty gyro without any of the pretense you might find at a more polished Greek restaurant. It’s a practical stop for quick takeout but also comfortable enough to linger in for a casual sit-down meal. The staff’s friendly and attentive approach—like helping customers with mobility needs or taking orders out to the car—adds a welcoming, down-to-earth feel that defines the experience.

Peak times are likely around lunch and early evening when the flow of phone and walk-in orders pick up, so a bit of wait is normal, especially for made-fresh Greek fries. If you want a relaxed pace, visiting just before or after typical meal hours may offer a quieter experience. This spot is ideal for folks craving uncomplicated, flavorful Greek fare with a few local twists in a neighborhood restaurant setting.

After hearing how delicious the food is since moving here, I went, got 2 gyros to take home. Greeted with real smiles! I use a walker so Yanni helped me out, took my order to my car with friendly chat, such a kind gesture. I’ve tried Greek many places, by far best gyro ever, magic sauce. Come as you are to a comfortable atmosphere.

Everything I've gotten from here has been great. I love the gyro salad and the spicy BBQ gyro is so good. The Greek fries are the way to go when it comes to fries. And if you've never had a gyro horseshoe, you definitely eed to stop in and try one.

Only did carry out. Gyros and greek fries (lemon and oregano). Lots of people coming in, lots of phone orders coming in. Good staff. Nice food. Service was quick and efficient. Would go back if I lived locally for sure

I stopped by Yanni’s, a cozy little Greek spot, and overall it was a pretty good experience. The gyro sandwiches were solid. The fries were on point too, nice and crispy. It’s nothing fancy, but the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, perfect for a casual meal. The only real downside was the falafel—it was super dry and just didn’t taste great. Service was quick though; I got my two sandwiches in about 10 minutes. I’d definitely go back for the gyros, but I’ll pass on the falafel next time.

Wow! Amazing gyros! This hole in the wall is definitely worth a stop if you are anywhere near Springfield. One of the best gyros I’ve ever had for sure. They make the fries in small batches so you may have to wait a bit but they are delicious.

Absolutely the best gyros around. The fries are amazing as well. Watch them fry them sometime and you will see there is more to it than dropping the basket. Then get the Greek fries for a whole new level of goodness. If that doesn’t blow your mind then go for the Spicy BBQ Gyro Pita Shoe. O…. M…. G.. The best thing when I worked in Springfield was being 1.5 miles away from here. I am going to miss going there once or twice a week.

The gyros are to die for . The food is fresh and filling . It’s honestly the best I’ve had since being in Illinois. The Greek fries are out of this world . And don’t forget to get extra tzatziki sauce. The staff is extremely pleasant and everything is made to order so make sure you order ahead .

What a great place to enjoy a traditional Gyro, which is one of my favorites! This was my first visit, and I must tell you the Greek fries were delicious. They were crispy fries with a Greek seasoning blend sprinkled on top. They also sell a mini sandwich if you’re not starving. The place was nice and clean, even in the bathroom! The staff was very friendly. I will stop here every time I’m in town!
